Thank you for visiting Inca Alpaca online.

On our site we hope that you will learn about the history of the alpaca in their native land, how alpacas have adapted to the UK environment and why we farm alpacas as a viable rural enterprise here in England. You can also learn how you can become part of this emerging and sophisticated rural industry for healthy financial returns and outstanding lifestyle. In addition to general information on alpacas, the site carries a list of our alpacas standing at stud and the alpacas we have for sale here in the UK and that are available for export through our dedicated quarantine facility.

We have continued to monitor and record vital growth and fibre statistics so that we can better understand how our entire herd is performing. By better understanding growth and nutirtion we can monitor and correct, if neccessary, our husbandry regime to maximise herd health and therefore fibre production. We have also now completed the sale of our entire wool clip to Toft Alpaca and seeing the world class fashion show at the 2010 British Alpaca Futurity reinforced the main reason why we are dedicating our lives to breeding better alpacas. Year after year we continue to breed our alpacas for higher productivity and predictability. At Inca Alpaca we feel that the only way we can be competitive on the world stage is to breed denser and finer fleeces that grow a longer length of staple. When the UK industry has enough fibre to begin to significantly lower processing costs and supply the growing demand for alpaca products, the commercial arm of the British Alpaca Industry needs to be able to stand on it's own two feet and grow a commercial product cost effectively.
We welcome new comers to this exciting industry and are happy to share our experience in order to grow the national herd.

Thank you and please get in touch for more info and to arrange a farm visit. Tim and Tracey Hey.

Breeding Coloured Alpacas

– article for all black alpaca breeders as
published in Alpaca World Magazine.

I was delighted to be asked to write a few words about my passion for breeding black huacayas and to share the knowledge I have gained. I began by thinking about the major lessons that I have learnt over the years. The common goals most breeders of this fantastic animal share, is to breed an alpaca that is fit for function and carries as much fine fibre as possible. Breeding for black is no exception.
However, we still know little about breeding up the quality of a coloured alpaca that has, until very recently, rarely been selectively bred.

Black Breeders Meet at Inca Alpaca

Kerry Bettingson from Toft alpaca addressing the breeders

A large gathering of dedicated breeders of black alpacas met at our farm in Dorset on the 6th of February. The day was designed to bring alpaca breeders together to learn and share information. The day began with an informative talk from Kerry Bettinson from Toft Alpaca where she explained the huge potential for black fibre in the UK and the opportunity for the black group to supply and value add their fibre clip. We followed Kerry with an assessment session where we were able to assess 6 and 7 year old elite black females and the progeny they have produced. A delicious hog roast lunch and a few glasses of wine were then followed with viewing good and poor breeding results and then an open discussion on breeding, health and husbandry.

Tim and Tracey would like to thank all the breeders who attended the day and another group gathering is currently being planned for the north of England. Details available soon.
