When we first formed a syndicate to acquire this two time BAS National Champion from his breeder Toft Alpacas, we had dreams that he would be a pivotal link in our black breeding programme. Having a depth of colour in his pedigree and dark points, we were confident he would produce black cria and also brown that we could breed black from. We were sure he would be a big step in improving the fleece productivity of the core herd.
Both the sire and dam of Timogen were elite examples with a depth of uniform bloodlines and when bred by Rob and Shirley, the result was something that we just had to have. Tim actually judged Timogen’s dam back in 2011 where she made Junior champion Female at the BAS National and when Timogen came along, we followed his development with a keen eye until his acquisition.
We can’t be more grateful for what this male is achieving, not only himself, but also in his progeny. He is taking our herd further than ever before and we are now confident on how to implement him within the breeding programme and the results are so exciting.
On Wednesday the 6th of May 2020, Toft Timogen cut 5.28kg of fleece, averaging 18.9 micron, at one month shy of seven years of age.
